“A” Pavillon, Hospital in Pordenone

Pordenone

Seismic vulnerability assessment including material and soil testing and concept design for seismic retrofitting.

The Azienda Ospedaliera "Santa Maria degli Angeli" located in Pordenone assigned to Aires Ingegneria the task for the seismic vulnerability assessment of Pavilion "A" of the Pordenone Hospital.

The building contains seven individual floors above ground plus a basement and an attic floor and consists of four separate blocks. The bearing structures of all the blocks are moment-resisting reinforced concrete types. The total volume of the entire building is around 100,000 cubic meters.

The structure is very complex because, in the past, it has been subjected of raising and enlargements work interventions realized with metallic carpentry structures, given the need to create new operating rooms on the top floors.

The phase of investigations on materials and structural detailing was calibrated in such a way as to reach a second-order Knowledge Level. In this regard, the assignment included the execution of: concrete cores testing, reinforcing bars testing, Schmidt hammer tests, ultrasonic investigations, magnetometer investigations, endoscopic and thermographic surveys. As for the geognostic testing campaign we proceeded to: continuous core drilling, Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and "Down Hole" seismic tests.

The evaluation of the seismic vulnerability of the buildings, in order to increase the monitoring of results, was performed with dual analyses: Linear Dynamic Analysis and Non-Linear Static Analysis (Pushover).
