- Assignment Seismic vulnerability assessment, material and soil testing, pre-design for seismic retrofitting.
- Team Prof. Engr. Massimiliano Ferraioli, Prof. Engr. Donato Abruzzese
The assignment involved analysing the seismic vulnerability of the building housing the "Liceo Pedagogico Alessandro Manzoni" in Caserta.
The school building was built in 1971 and consists of three blocks. The maximum dimensions are approximately 85x64 m and the maximum covered area is about 2200 square metres, the maximum number of floors above ground is four.
The series of tests on materials and the soil was integrated with a dynamic testing aimed to characterize the dynamic behaviour of the structural blocks, also paying particular attention to the level of "interaction" of the different structural blocks.
Thanks to the performed dynamic tests, it was possible to improve the implementation of the Finite Element Model, as a result of the technical method called "Model Updating".
Assessment of the seismic vulnerability of the buildings was performed using Non-linear Static Analysis (Pushover), using a three-dimensional model in which beams and columns assumed a widespread inelastic behaviour called "fiber model".
